THE MONTEREY PLAZA HOTEL - AVOID!

The Monterey Hotel & Spa is a hotel with an enviable position on Cannery Row. They purport to be a top class quality hotel providing the best in service and accommodation but we found the truth. Dreadful service, lazy and unmotivated staff. Service of the worst kind. Hot and noisy rooms.  No warning that this very expensive hotel has no air-conditioning. Complaints dealt with in a rude and bad mannered managers and directors.

If you are expecting a five star hotel you will be disappointed. If you expect a two star hotel you will love it. Accommodation is provided in different towers. Some old and past their sell by date, some modern and luxurious. Service also depends on which tower you are in. Our Valet Parking suddenly dried up one day and we were told to park it ourselves after they checked which tower we were in. The Palace Tower, which was better and $160 per night more expensive than the Centurion Tower. Staff in general are rude unless you are a high roller. Don't worry, they know the difference. I had the unusual luck to win $1300 on Roulette but when I tried to cash in the chips was told abruptly, "So we are paying you to stay in our hotel".
